How Long Does it Take for CBD to Work?
How long does it take for CBD to start working? Well, it all depends on a few factors.
CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive substance derived from hemp plants that does not alter one's state of mind. The time it takes for CBD to work in the body depends on several factors, such as the method of consumption, concentration, and dosage.
In this post we’ll look at the different ways and explore how long they take for the CBD to work.
Sublingually
Sublingual consumption is quick, as the compound is absorbed under the tongue and bypasses the digestive system. However, orally ingesting CBD takes longer for the effects to take hold than say vaping, as the compound must pass through the digestive system and liver.
It could take up to an hour for the effects to kick in, depending on the amount and type of food consumed. Remember, everyone is different, so if you can’t feel it after 20-30 minutes, don’t panic as it you will feel the effects eventually.
Vaping CBD
Inhaling CBD through vaping is the quickest way to experience its effects, with results appearing in as little as 5 to 10 minutes. Vaping provides one of the most effective ways to try CBD because the compound is delivered straight into the bloodstream via the lungs.
Although, we understand vaping CBD is not for everyone. However, if you vape already, it’s a great way to try CBD.
Taking CBD Orally
CBD gel tablets and other things like gummy bears can be taken orally, either before or after meals. Unlike other forms of CBD that require mixing with food or drink, CBD edibles can be consumed as is.
Though, it's worth noting that the onset of effects may be slower compared to other methods. The reason being, the product must first navigate through the digestive system and be metabolized by the liver before it can be fully absorbed by the body. This process can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour
However, if taken on an empty stomach, the effects may be felt sooner, whereas the presence of food, especially its type and amount, can impact the timeline for the compound to take effect.
Apply CBD Topically
You can apply CBD creams on your skin, which is really good for joint pain and other achy things. That said, it’s probably the slowest form of application for CBD to start working.
CBD creams are topical products that can be applied directly onto the skin for localized effects. These creams are made with CBD oil and other nourishing ingredients, such as aloe vera, coconut oil, and beeswax, to hydrate and soothe the skin.
The CBD in these creams interacts with the endocannabinoid system in the skin, which is responsible for regulating a number of processes, including pain and inflammation.
By applying CBD cream topically, you can target specific areas of the body that are experiencing discomfort, allowing for fast and effective relief. Additionally, since the CBD is not being ingested, it does not have the same potential for interactions with other medications as oral CBD products do. This makes topical CBD creams a convenient and safe option for those looking for localized relief.
Things to Remember
Starting with a lower dosage of CBD and gradually increasing it is recommended to avoid any adverse effects. The right CBD dosage depends on body weight, size, tolerance, and preferred method of ingestion.
You can start with 1mg to get your body acclimatized then adjust upwards if needed. Despite the urge to start with a large dose of CBD oil to try and obtain maximized effects, it is ill-advised.
And if you can’t feel the CBD, don’t panic and take more. Wait it out because everybody is different, so the time it takes to start working might be longer with you.
